Green Angel Ventures today announced the completion of an investment in Halocycle, the Hull-based advanced recycling company. Halocycle has created an IP-protected innovation enabling the advanced recycling of PVC. Over 1 million tonnes of PVC and PVC-containing material is sent to landfill in the UK alone every year. Halocycle will be able to recycle PVC, using its innovative process, retaining the hydrocarbon product of the process for re-use in new plastics, and the acidic by-product for use in cleaning products.
The acidic content is derived from the chlorine in PVC (the ‘C’ stands for chloride in polyvinyl chloride, known as PVC). The corrosive effect of this acidic by-product on metallic processing equipment has previously prevented successful advanced recycling of PVC. The Halocycle process has solved this problem.
CEO Dr Henrietta Boyd told us:
We have been working on the solution to PVC recycling since 2020. We are making great progress, and the investment from Green Angel Ventures is exactly what we need to complete the pilot plant validation and bring our solution to market. Thanks, Green Angel Ventures!
GAV President, Nick Lyth, said:
I first heard the Halocycle story in an event in Leeds in 2022. I was struck by the power of the innovation, and the dynamism of its CEO. She brings a strong commercial instinct to a robust and exciting technology. We are delighted to be completing this investment.
